Choosing a First Wedding Dance Song

“Band Mamma” Eve shares her thoughts

Wedding first dance.

A traditional first dance at a scottish wedding.

The venue is booked, the menu has been tasted and chosen. Of course your wedding band has been booked almost from day one of your engagement!
Your gown is fabulous and the flowers are ordered. The cars are booked and your other half has the rings in a safe place….

So now it’s time to think about your first wedding dance song, I always tell my brides it’s the most important song of her life. She’ll hear it one day when she’s an old lady it will transport her straight back to when she was a beautiful young bride. That song will always be “our song”

Try not to chose a song about death and divorce, some have, they liked the tune but never listened to the lyrics!
If you want your wedding band to play the first dance you will have to bear in mind what the band can perform. There is no point asking an all male rock covers band for something by the Spice Girls or the Three Degrees!

Most bands will play your request through their desk at “live” level on an iPod if for any reason they don’t do your particular song.

Don’t worry at all about the dancing. No one, and I mean not one person, in the ballroom is actually looking at your feet and what you’re doing with them. Everyone is is just loving how you look into each other’s eyes as you take the floor for your first dance as Mr. and Mrs.!

There have been a few wonderful dancers, but on the whole the first dance is a shuffle with the groom desperately trying to avoid standing on his bride’s gown.
But if you really are very nervous and worried your wedding band can invite all the wedding party on the floor after a couple of minutes. That way you won’t be alone.

My very best advice? Just relax and have the most fun you can, you deserve it
